Bhubaneswar Airport History

Bhubaneswar Airport, known as Biju Patnaik Airport, is the primary airport in the state of Orissa. The airport got its name from the former Chief Minister of Orissa, Biju Patnaik, who was a famous aviator as well as a freedom fighter. At present, it is a domestic airport but recently Chief Minister, Navin Patnaik has sought international tag for Bhubaneswar airport as with the completion of the on-going construction work, the airport can handle 1000 domestic passengers as well as 384 international passengers during the crest hours. The airport is approximately 3 km away from center of the city.

Bhubaneswar Airport Terminals

The airport has a single terminal at present which is used for domestic purpose only. Currently, there are quite a good numbers of airlines such as Air India, IndiGo, Jet Airways, JetKonnect and Air India Regional which operate their flights to various parts of the country such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Port Blair, Bangalore, Hyderabad and many more.

Baggage Services: The airport has an excellent baggage service as travelers can get complimentary luggage trolleys all around the airport to carry their luggage. For the convenience of disabled passengers, there are facilities of wheel chair with escorts. The airport also has a lost and found section.

Places to Shop and Eat: To offer first rate facilities, there are quite a good number of eating joints as well as shopping stores at the airport. Travelers can find TR Book Stall, Handloom Handicraft stalls, Snack Bar, Tea Coffee bar and Juice Counter where they can buy stuff at an affordable price. Here, you will also find a Lounge.

Duty Free Shops: There are some duty free shops at the airport from where travelers can buy some valuable things at best prices such as alcohol, perfumes, cigarettes and many more.
